I thought the book started off slowly, but then soon came into its own and became quite entertaining. I wanted to know what happened next. I have no problem setting a book down if I don't find it entertaining (and I've set down plenty) but this I read all the way through as well as the sequel to it.

Reviews
I wasn't expecting too much from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. A little more in depth back story on the main character would have been better. Her being an expert marksman and hand to hand combat expert was a little hard to swallow. I was intrigued enough to keep reading.
It is a fast read and easy to forget book. The story makes you crazy. The characters makes you dream. Reading it makes you happy.
What a novel take on an ability mutated into the genome purely for survival. The fact that when young, this girl survived her first encounter with her 'other place' is what makes her whole character plausible, and, even though she is ruthless, you can empathise and admire her. There was just enough information to set up and maintain the storyline without boring you to death with details. I am whole heartedly recommending this book. I see there are more in the series..... Grin!
I can't say enough of how this book gripped my attention from start to finish. I have been so bored for months now. Starting books reading 3 chapters then the last 2 chapters and I am done. But this book was exciting had complex, raw imperfect and broken people. Doing the beat they could. Cool hibt of the supernatural, the characters where engaging.
Great start.
Shadows in the Water
(Shadows in the Water #1)
by Kory M. Shrum
A gal named Lou, as a young girl, has a fear of water. One day her mom leaves her in the bathtub to check the food bubbling on the stove. The girl disappears! She is found months later when someone is mowing their grass near their pool. She is sliced up, standing by the pool, and has deep gouge marks in her flesh.
Her father realizes that his sister was like this but he thought she was attention seeking and never believed her. Now he does. He plans to send the now 12 year old Lou to her aunt for the summer to learn to control it. But drug cartel members raid the place and kill her mom and dad. Her dad saved her by throwing her into the pool.
She is grown now and has learned all kinds of things, like multiple martial arts, shooting, and using this gift. She can use even darkness to disappear/travel. She knows where the creature that attacked her lives and she takes it drug dealers!
This is so good! Lots of great revenge, fantastic fantasy, creatures, characters, suspense and I enjoyed cheering for this serial killer!
I was not sure when I first downloaded this book, but, boy, was I so wrong. This is an awesome story line with great characters. I can't wait to read the next one and to also read more by Kory M. Shrum. She is a great writer with a top notch imagination.
Grabbed my attention from the start and couldn’t put it down until I finished. A definite must read for all.
