Hamartiology: Understanding Our Sin Problem

In the Bible, every chapter includes sin and its consequences, except four—the first two chapters of Genesis, before the fall, and the last two of Revelation, after the creation of the new heaven and earth. The story of the Bible essentially abounds with the themes of sin and our need for salvation. Since sin permeates every aspect of the human existence, we must understand it and how God provides grace to deliver us from it, both for ourselves and to help others.

In Hamartiology, our sin problem and its remedy are explored by answering questions like: What is sin? What is sin’s origin? Why did God allow sin in the first place? Is every sin equal? What is the unpardonable sin? What is the sin that results in death? What are temptations to sin and consequences of it? How can we conquer sin? and much more. Let’s study these together with the Bible Teacher’s Guide.

“The Bible Teacher’s Guide … will help any teacher study and get a better background for his/her Bible lessons. In addition, it will give direction and scope to teaching of the Word of God.  Praise God for this contemporary introduction to the Word of God.”

Clear and Easy-to-Understand

I can always depend on Gregory Brown to deliver a well-written book with few if any mistakes and clear, easy-to-understand text. This book is no different. There are a few controversial subjects here, but Brown explains different sides. Although this book didn’t speak to me in the same way some of his other books have, it is an excellent exposition on sin and appropriate for all Christians.

Skillfully deals with the topic of sin

"As for our legal standing, all sin separates us from God and makes us eternally guilty." These words might not be the ones you think of first when sharing the gospel with those around you. But if we love the gospel, we must understood what God says about sin. And Pastor Greg Brown does that here. Once again, he skillfully deals with the fundamentals of Bible-based theology with this book that works for large-group gatherings or small groups. Packed within ten chapters are teachings that show where sin comes from, why God allows sin and even uses it to reflect his glory. Pulling no punches, this book deals with the uncomfortable truth that sin is a mirror into man's depravity. Of course, Pastor Brown ties in the "remedy for sin" by pointing us to the cross. Pick this up for your church group. You won't regret it!
