Noir mystery for today’s reader.

Based on the style of H. P. Lovecraft, Night of the Dagon is set in the 1930’s. Devlin Macky is a wise cracking gumshoe with a little office, a pretty secretary named Millie, who is crazy about him, and a stylish coupe. Dev’s new client, Mordred Haddonfield, wants an artifact called the Silver Bluebell, returned to him. Haddonfield, says it was stolen from him by the director of the local museum and wants Dev to steal it back. Haddonfield and his chauffeur Borgas both look very scary, almost not human. Almost not alive. But he needs the money, so Dev agrees to take the job.

People begin disappearing, especially from the shady side of town. And the ones who are still there seem fishy somehow, with big wide mouths and scaly skin. Dev talks to the museum director, who tells him the Silver Bluebell is a dangerous artifact used for calling the ancient underwater god Dagon back to life to take over the world!

What’s a Private Eye to do? Is it possible that Mr Haddonfield wants to rule the world and is using the Bluebell to replace people with fishy beings? Will Millie be able to save her man from the monster?

Grab a copy of Night of the Dagon before the monster rises from the sea and destroys everything we hold dear.

Sam Spade meets Lovecraft

This is an outstanding book, with a great buildup and lots of snappy come-backs. I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, with his Bogart-like personality (and seemingly conscious imitation thereof). I binge-read the whole thing and now waiting for the next one. Well done!

Great Lovecraft Type Story

I like Lovecraft but a lot of the new books are collections of short stories (like Lovecraft, I know! ), so anytime a novel comes out I have to check it out. This was a good book and I will read book 2 when available.

I have to say that I absolutely loved this book

I have just finished reading The Night of Dagon. I have to say that I absolutely loved this book! The dialogue was engaging and the blend of genres were all that I happen to find interest in. I was caught up in a "I can't but this down," story that carried me on a terrific ride. If you like classic horror and myths and legends then you will most likely enjoy this book. I am an avid H.P Lovecraft fan and this his all of the points I needed. Thank you Mr. Berntson. I look forward to more books in this series. This has also made me want to read more of your work. I look forward to any new work that you publish.

Mystery, horror, and thriller all in one.

Not too bad of a story. There is a little bit of everything for everyone. There is mystery, horror, thriller, and a smidge of romance. Sort of. It all focuses on a private detective, Dev, and an other-worldly artifact of evil, the Bluebell. The reader is pulled along and immersed in the details of Dagon and his children. The story was well written. The side characters were interesting enough to add to the plot without being the focus. I look forward to future books in the series to see how the characters evolve and whether Boom-boom makes another appearance to help Dev.
