In the twenty-first century, who needs Lords anymore?

Richard, Lord of the Manor of Arkthwaite, lives alone in his crumbling house, resenting his hereditary position. He’s hoping to drink himself to an early grave and bring the title to an end.

His bleak plans are upset when newcomer Helena decides to shake up this fading community. She’s been jilted and she needs a new project, so she joins forces with local headmistress Vicky and together they hatch a plan to bring broadband to this remote spot. Their lives clash with Richard’s as the cable needs to be dug across his land.

But when Richard falls for Helena, it gets more complicated. She’s suspicious of men and their compliments; and he has his own reasons for wanting to stay single. Can they both shake off their histories to bring a better future to the village - and their own lives?

Contains: romance, community regeneration, pagans, over-the-top mothers, British humour, rain. Gentle romance with no adult scenes but a few occasions of PG-13 language.

Delightful story

A funny, light hearted story. A view into modern day issues regarding family responsibility and hereditary titles. Some what of a predictable ending but just what I was looking for.

Mindless

The writing feels forced, not organic, as if the writer had an outline and crammed as many personal opinions before petering out.

A giggle a chortle and a hearty ha ha ha!

I enjoyed every bit of THE LAST LORD OF THE MOORS.
A rare hoot. Had me laughing out loud. I so enjoy my visits with
English authors.

read “Some Very English Murders” instead

I got this book because I liked the “Some Very English Murders” series written by the same author, although under slightly different name (Issy Brooks).
Unfortunately I found this book boring. My advice is to read “Some Very English Murders” instead.

Three Stars

Starts promising, but didn't fulfill my expectations...

Near miss

The main problem with this novel was that the two main characters were so annoyingly self-centered. Although the plot had merit, I really tired of these two blaming their misfortunes on their mothers...they sounded like whiney teenagers and not young adults.

Natural interaction between the romantic leads, but predictable chicklit premise

The element that stood out to me in this book was the dialogue. So many books, particularly in the romance or chicklit genre, try SO HARD for that sparkling, easy banter that tells you these characters are 'meant to be,' and instead their conversation often comes off forced and over-written. I found the dialogue between Helena and Richard in "Last Lord" to be surprisingly natural and convincing. The plot was predictable but not boring, and the writing was slightly above average for this type of book.

Not my usual genre, and definitely enjoyed it!

I wasn't expecting a modern romance when I picked this book for my tbr books, and once I realized it wasn't my usual historical I almost deleted it from my kindle, but I decided to give it a chance, and I am really glad that I did. I was sorry to see it end when I finished reading it.
