I knew I was going to have a hard time liking Mathew based on his behavior in the last book. And all the internal angst he had over his brother’s death just didn’t ring true for the reasons he was such a jerk.
The same can be said for Patience. The guy she liked/loved all her life acted like an adolescent with his friends making her the butt of less-than-nice dialogue (what middle school girl hasn’t endured far worse), but really. That sent her into self-imposed exile for 7 years? Get a grip.
I liked that Patience took care of her family and even the ladies fenced and could shoot pistols, but when push came to shove, the big bully came to save the day, albeit shoddily as the villain got another bite at the apple. And half the time, Patience was being an irrational shrew. It aggravated me that such a strong heroine was made almost unlikable.
The romance was too saccharine sweet. The sensual parts were well written, but I just had no connection to these two as a couple.
Tempting Miss Allender
by Wendy Vella
Seven years after her disastrous debut, Miss Patience Allender has reluctantly returned to society to chaperone her sister. No longer the meek, mild Miss, she will never again allow a man to humiliate her. However, Patience’s resolve is severely tested when she comes face-to-face, with the very man who shattered her heart. Desperate for help when her family is thrust into danger, he is the only one she can turn to - but can she do so and keep her heart whole or will he destroy her once again?
Lord Mathew Belmont is stunned at the changes in his childhood friend. The once awkward young girl is now exquisitely beautiful, outspoken and intelligent, and no longer wants anything to do with him. Aware of his past sins, Mathew now regrets them deeply, and is determined to make amends – if prickly Patience would just let him close enough to try. As passion flares between them, Mathew is faced with the most crucial challenge of his life – putting the ghosts of the past to rest, in order to build his future.

Reviews
I have read a most all of Wendy Vella's books. They do not disappoint. A great mix of drama, romance and even comedy.
This was a good story of love and being afraid of the cousin hurting Patience brother and was holding back her feelings toward Mathew. Love won out.
Patience and Matthew brought healing to each other by acknowledging their love for each other. The road to this s was bumpy and fraught with danger. At last mg last their life like my relationship was restored.
Another great book & number 3 in this series. Wonderful characters & story that I couldn’t help but love & enjoy immensely. This book was also engaging & held my interest till the end. I recommend this author & series!
This is the third in a series with returning characters. I enjoyed seeing Matthew get his own story.
I did like this book, however it just wasn’t as good as the other 2 in the series. Usually I like the last one in the series better than the first. It had its good points.
Cleverly written, good plotline, interesting resolution...all these things make a good novel, and they are there in abundance! I am really enjoying this author, and look forward to more from Ms. Vella!
