I absolutely loved this book. I read half of it in one night and finished it the next night. I couldn’t put it down. The plot was fast paced and the story was sweet and empowering.

Veteran NY cop, Rick Cooper, heads to his family’s lake house after losing a hostage negotiation, resulting in the death a child. He brings only his dog and his saxophone for company. His agenda includes lots of fishing while figuring out an appropriate career change.
Single mom, Kristin McCarthy hears the sound of the saxophone gliding through the night air…a healing sound for her daughter. She begins a search for the person who can play so beautifully. Her high hopes fall, however, when the musician turns out to be a cop. The police fell short when she and Ashley needed them most. But still…if this cop could make a difference…if he can help Ashley…well, Kristin would do anything for her young daughter.
An attractive widow with a damaged kid are the last people Rick needs in his life, and he tries hard to remain aloof. The ladies, however, knock down his barriers simply by being themselves. Fearful but brave, smart but silly. Before long, warm feelings grow between him and Kristin. Feelings that spark potential for a future together.
However, before Kristin allows herself to dream, Rick must prove he’s a man she and her daughter can trust. Can they count on him forever?
Reviews
This was an informative and very well written book. The characters were realistic and you felt their pain in life changing situations. Ashley and Quincy will forever be a part of my memory.
I just get so drawn into these characters. When I finish I'm ready for the next. I'm so glad I found this author.
One of the very best, believable , heart-wrenching stories I've ever read! I couldn't put it down before finishing it! Written as though she had lived through it.
I enjoyed this story of a single mother whose daughter suffered a devastating attack. It is also the story of a policeman who is ready to give up his career. The mother, Kristin and daughter, Ashley meet the policeman, Rick and his dog, Quincy. They all end up being life lines for each other when they needed it the most.
Loved this book and glad I found this author. The story will have you thinking you know what is next then boom you don't!
I hate giving a low-star review for a book I haven't read more than a few pages of, but unfortunately Amazon has disabled comments on reviews, and I have to say that I'm not going to be reading any more of this author's books, free or not (- italics needed, here). I had read the free starts of two of her other series and liked them enough that - even though I can only afford to binge-read series that are on KU, which these are not - I had wish-listed the rest for gift-giving ideas for my next birthday. Trusting that I would like this free 1st-in-series as well, I didn't bother to read the low-star reviews on it (italics, again); bad mistake - I deleted it and the others on my wish-list as well.
I absolutely loved this book. Can't believe I'm just finding this author. The storyline and characters draws you right in. Sweet love story and an HEA. Will definitely read more from Ms. Barrett!
This is a heartwarming story with sweet and tender romance s?a nd a tragic crime. I couldn't setup turning the pages.
