I wish author would write complete stories. Series are great but then of seperate subjects or eras not a story cut into pieces.
Having said that this novel is great with worldbuilding and fleshed out characters and thus still getting 4 stars.
It is set on a desert planet where humans seem to have been stranded in the past and now have to survive in a primitive society. But life is getting harder and the planet has hidden secrets in store.
Sandstorm: A Dystopian Science Fiction Story
by T.W. Piperbrook
For three generations, the colonists on Ravar have been stranded on a harsh planet, forced to survive in a desert environment where only the scrappiest animals and the heartiest plants survive. Most live without the foolish hope that Earth's supply ships will ever grace the skies again.
Trapped in a sandstorm, Neena Xylance struggles to make her way back to her colony. What she doesn't know is that she isn't alone, and what she finds might destroy the last of the fragile life on her planet.
Book 1 of the SANDSTORM series.
Book 2 WINDSWEPT available now!
Book 3 coming Winter 2018/2019.
Reviews
What a waste. Kept waiting for something to happen. I thought this was supposed to be new? It’s just another Dune.
Two stars because I actually finished it, only to have the story get cut off. Just a way to suck you in to buying more books, not actually writing a plot arc.
Great book!
Why has Earth abandoned the colony? Why does it have such huge sandstorms? What is the deadly creature and why does it hunt? Are the 2 colonies secret or planned? Cliffhanger ending. On to book 2!
This book seems like it was written by Avery well educated eight grader. The syntax, though awkwardly perfect, seems sophomoric. The plot is sort of nonexistent, random characters don't even interact with one another. One feels taken advantage of, as a tenuous ending solve nothing and is just a teaser to get you to buy another book. I would not recommend this to any adult. I'm sorry I read it all. It was a waste of time.
I enjoyed the books, but has anyone read the Dune series? The "Abomination" was exactly like the Sandworm in that series, I keep reading to see if they'll "conquer" it like they did in those books. I'd be interested to see what Piperbrook has to say about the similarities.
Piperbrook creates an impressive world and set of characters in this series. Having read some of his other works, I enjoyed his writing style once again. Twists and turns and highs and lows to really understand the people he writes about.
If you like following characters throughout a series, definitely pick this one up!
I've read a lot of this authors books. He's always entertaining. Language, punctuation and use are good which is often distracting with some authors.
