I chose this rating because I have read other books by this author and they are amazing but this one was a little lacking. To be honest I'm not sure what it was or how to explain it but it didn't have the same omph her later ones do. I still recommend it for a good read I enjoyed it.
Protecting Cheyenne
by Susan Stoker
**Same story...updated cover!**
Living in Southern California, Cheyenne was used to seeing hot military men as she went about her daily business. An anonymous encounter at the grocery store cemented her crush on one such man. He was big, built, and incredibly easy on the eyes, but it wasn't as if he would ever really notice her.
Always in control of any situation, Faulkner “Dude” Cooper knows explosives. As a bomb expert, he's lived through many high pressure situations. Disfigured by a bomb while on a mission, he's used to being looked at with pity. When he's called to a local supermarket to assist the local PD, the last thing he expects to find is a generous act of kindness performed by a beautiful, amazing woman. Enchanted by her selflessness in the face of danger and intrigued by her actions to save civilians she didn't know, Dude’s hooked.
Dude was able to save Cheyenne from the group of thugs trying to take her life, but when the past comes back to haunt them both, sometimes having the knowledge and the desire isn't enough to beat the countdown of the clock.
**Protecting Cheyenne is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.
Reviews
Protecting Cheyenne is the sixth book in Susan Stoker’s SEALs of Protection series. In this book, we meet two dynamic lead characters—Cheyenne Cotton, a 32-year-old 911 operator and Faulkner “Dude” Cooper is part of the SEALS team of protection. Both Cheyenne and Dude are emotionally wounded from their years with respective dysfunctional families. He is an ordinance specialist with a mangled left hand due to a bomb explosion. Cheyenne becomes a hostage when a group of five-gun men try to rob the grocery store’s pharmacy. The police snipers kill the five men. However, the bomb strapped to her as part of their getaway plan needs to be deactivated. Dude is called in to neutralize the bomb. There is an instant attraction between Dude and Cheyenne. Will Dude be successful in neutralizing the bomb? Will Dude and Cheyenne follow through with their attraction? If so, will they find happiness? Is Cheyenne safe or will she fact other threats on her life? You must read this book to ascertain what happens.
This novel is beautifully written, and Stoker takes time to use the rest of the team as supporting characters in this plot line. She provides their backstories to give new readers a sense of continuity. Ms. Stoker does a remarkable job with literary devices such as dialog, point of view and descriptive language. I adored her skill in craftsmanship in developing dialog that pulls the reader into this story while endearing her characters to the reader. I enjoyed Cheyenne’s unfiltered monologue when she is under the influence of pain pills. The internal dialog of our protagonists allows readers to understand their backstories and lends to their credibility. I also enjoyed her use of multiple POV. This approach reveals the essence of their character. Additionally, her descriptive scene allows readers to feel they are firsthand witnesses. I found Stoker's writing style easy to follow and her characters are truly likeable. So, if you enjoy romantic suspense stories and you want to curl up with a captivating read then I recommend this HEA romance. Happy Reading!
This is the first time I give Susan Stoker three stars.
The robbery seemed a bit unbelievable, and so did the rest of the suspense part. I didn’t like the dom/sub part of their relationship.
Can be read as a stand-alone, but characters from the other books are a big part of the story. It has a hfn and doesn’t end in a cliffhanger.
What I absolutely HATED about this book was the hero's SM controlling crap!!! Not romantic at all! Yuck. I'm half way through and I quit.
Finished it hoping one of them would get therapy and help the other. But no. A dominant and submissive and neither evolve.
This author's writing is formula, but it was a formula I liked. I wanted to read every book she'd written. But after this hot mess, I WILL NEVER READ ANOTHER!
The hero seemed like a man who would beat the crap out of her if she showed any gumption at all. The book even hints at anal. Bondage is big and one of the couples that I liked were getting on the bondage bandwagon, so the evil will spread and contaminate the rest of her writing.
God is love. Love is irrestible. It doesn't need erotica or hardware. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't know what love is, especially Susan Stoker.
I just wanna say to all of the people that answer 911 calls THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO, YOU TRUELY DON"T KNOW HOW IMPORTANT YOU REALLY ARE!!!
Chey is a 911 operator, she doesn't really know how important she is. Chey liked a men in uniform. Not just because she lived close to a military base, but that didn't hurt either. One day in the grocery Chey seen Faulkner " Dude Cooper. Chey had follow he around the store one day that they both go to for food. Dude even gotten something off the top shelf for her. Dude is a SEAL and is a bomb tech. One day on Chey's day off she went to the grocery store to get her some food the next couple of weeks. There was only a few people in the store that day. When 5 guys came in to rob the pharmacy, but they had no luck with that. The manger and the cashiers were able to get out, but the 3 women that were in store wasn't so lucky. The robbery's had asked the ladies about who wanted to do a job for them. The women had to choice which one of them that got to do the job. That's when they found out that the job was to carry a bomb. Two of the women were saying that they had family's and they didn't want to died. So, Chey said that she would do it. Wolf got the call that the police needed Dude to disarm the bomb. While the guys where leading Chey to the back to get the bomb and she started a fuss and that let the other 2 women to get a way. Once the snipers killed all 5 of the robbers, Dude and the police went into store to see if they could disarm the bomb. Dude was able to disarm the bomb and saved Chey's life. Their story only gets better from there.
This is such a action packed story and it is such an AMAZING story. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful romance novel series books. Please keep writing more of these wonderful books. Thank you
Being put down all your life makes it embedded in you. Even if it's not true. Finding out that the job you do doesn't matter, that you don't dress the way people want, not measuring up make a person feel unlovable and unwanted.
I loved this book. It is a little cheesy but I loved the characters. Cheyenne is so sweet and cute and Dude is sweet to her and protective. There was enough action that I wasn’t bored, but it wasn’t excessive.
