A Harlot at the Highland Court by Celeste Barclay is book twelve in The Highland Ladies series. This series is a spinoff of Barclay’s The Clan Sinclair series.
Lady Emelie Dunbar has been deceived by an unscrupulous cad, and Dominic Campbell comes to her aid. Unfortunately, the circumstances are complicated and will require both Emelie and Dominic to make decisions that will have lasting consequences.
A Harlot at the Highland Court lives up to the hype of the series. Barclay continues to impress with the continuity and excellent writing of this series. I fully enjoyed the engaging character interplay and the attention-grabbing plot twists. I rate this installment 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to readers of romantic suspense and medieval romance.

Triggers: Violence, Very Steamy Sex
Emilie and Dominic marry at first to protect her from public scorn because she's pregnant with another man's baby. From the start Dominic proves he's an unusual man for the time period because he doesn't hold Emilie's past or pregnancy against. In fact, he's amazingly supportive.
Both Emilie and Dominic have experienced past loves hurting them badly and this history drives a lot of the plot. There's also a mystery about attacks that is well done.
This is a very steamy read. I found the sex scenes well written and fitting given the narrative. There is also a decent amount of violence. Again the violence fits both the time period and the book.
A Harlot at the Highland Court is a really great read. It is a more mellow read agnst wise compared to some of the other books in the series. I really enjoyed the tone and the love that the couple finds very unexpectedly and fairly quickly.
I've loved all the Highland Court books and Harlot is not an exception to that. If you love historical romances especially Highland stories you'll this book. Even if you're not a fan of historicals you should give this series a try. Celeste Barclay weaves very timeless and relevant issues into stories that make them very interesting and enjoyable to a larger audience.
This is a five star read. Definitely give it a try.

Too many times I worried for the characters. I felt like I was there with them. Couldn’t put it down.
I loved this story just as much as I have loved every book in these Highland Court tales. Every book can be read as a standalone, but knowing the backstory of other Ladies in Waiting really enhances each story.
This book is very well written, with characters the reader will love, and characters the reader will wish ill fortune upon. The storyline flows smoothly, with crisp writing and descriptive wording. It has many poignant moments, with a lot of action throughout the book. It has its humorous moments as well. It is a story well worth reading!
