Reviews
I enjoyed the stories in this set. Louisa's story was my favorite because she is so funny. Also, I was very glad to get Miss Grayson's story. Quite a lot of entertainment in one set.
Was it cheesy? Yes! Was there insta love? Yes! Did I enjoy it? Yes! Was it exactly what I was looking for and needed? Yes!
These stories are quick, clean and adventurous. The romances are of the instant-love variety. These were perfect when I just wanted something light to read before bed.
This bundle of four novels and a novella was my first experience with this author. This collection is very run of the mill, by the numbers Regency. There was a sameness about the stories. They were padded out with endless repetitive introspection on the part of first one character, then another. I skimmed a lot and missed nothing. Although the books could have done with a bit of editing, the prose itself wasn’t terrible, nor was the dialogue. There was some carelessness in the writing. For example, in one book the h was thinking to herself that she had pretty good connections, better than some of her friends. Later on the same page, we’re told her marriage prospects are poor because of her lack of connections. In another story the h’s Christmas sojourn is first described as a fortnight, and a few pages later, a week. There were more inconsistencies, and yes, these are small things but a well written, well edited book doesn’t have these problems.
A quick perusal of the author’s page reveals that she, alone or with co-authors, churns out an astonishing number of books, with eight titles currently available for pre-order. I don’t think I’ll be bothering with any of the rest of her impressively prolific output. It just isn’t that good.
I liked the descriptions of feelings between the heros and heroines. The characters were fleshed out so that their personalities were real on the surface and underneath the surface. All the stories in this collection were excellent. And there was not any detailed sex scenes to have to flip through.
Whether it’s YA or Regency Romance (two genres not usually covered by the same author), Maggie Dallen is my “go to” author when I know I want something that’s truly well done. That’s definitely the case with her The School of Charm series of Regency Romances. Period appropriate, fun and romantic, with excellent plots and perfectly crafted characters. This series had it all , abs as such this Books 1-5 boxset is an easy download recommendation.
Absolutely loved this series!!! If you love historical reads and sweet stories then this boxset is for you.
