One morning, Eloise Paisley receives a mysterious letter from her grandmother who has been gone for over twenty years. Inside the envelope is the deed to a rundown bookshop on Main Street—a gift for Eloise. Is she up to the task of breathing life into the almost-derelict building, or will she have to sell the beloved property so she can afford to keep her cottage on the shore?

Fortunately, Eloise isn’t alone. She’s got three adult children on her side, though each has problems of their own.

Jack, the eldest, is running his own company. Despite his success, he finds that something in his life is missing. There’s Lilah, a mother of two young children, whose husband has been spending unexplained late nights at the office, and she’s determined to find out why. The youngest, Angelica, is a free spirit traveling the world for her career. But when she encounters an old flame at home, is it enough to draw her back?

Come visit the Paisley family on Aster Island and follow their journey as they explore new love and second chances, as they travel far and return home, and as they throw their hearts and souls into making a dream come true.

Step onto Aster Island off the coast of New England and be welcomed into the Paisley family’s cozy little cottage. Take your shoes off and stay a while. Smell the sea-salt air, relish in the scent of comfort food, snuggle in the warmth of a fuzzy blanket. Watch as one little gift gives way to a dream that transforms an entire family.

summer-y beach read

~~~ I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ~~~
This is the first book by Rosie Summers that I have read. I really enjoyed The Bookshop on Peony Harbor. It is a well written, light, summer-y read... perfect for the beach! The main story involves Eloise, who is a recently divorced grandmother in financial troubles. This book follows her as she opens her heart once again and embarks on a new career path as a bookshop owner. This is the story of family, romance, courage, and new beginnings. The Aster Island setting adds to the appeal of this book and makes a ideal backdrop for the story. In the end, this all adds up to create a wonderful summer read! I look forward to reading more of the Aster Island novels.
major plot issue ignored at the end
Pending loss of home due to property taxes due, was a major plot line and at the end nothing was resolved or even mentioned. Makes no sense that the focus is on opening a books shop which will cost tens of thousands of dollars and yet possible loss of family home is not addressed? Perhaps subsequent books will clear up mystery of abandoned bookshop (presume someone was paying property taxes for that). Characters are likable but big hole left in the story line
A mysterious letter and property arrive at the right time.
She doesn't know how she's going to keep the home that's been in her family for generations. Her husband left her broke emotionally as well as financially. A letter from her grandmother arrives even though she's been dead 20 years and the letter bequeaths her property and a bookstore. Will she be able to keep it and build her dreams of having a bookstore? In the meantime, she meets a handsome stranger who she is highly attracted to. Her kids have their own issues going on but as a family they love and support each other. Come fine out how the Paisley family deal with difficult situations. I can't wait to read more about this family and this island community!
The Bookshop at Peony Harbor
This is a well written book. Eloise Banks inherits an old bookstore on Aster Island and she must decide if it's worth putting her savings into refurbishing the bookstore or putting the money towards keeping acottage that has been in her family for generations. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline and I will be looking for more books by this author.
Cozy, sweet romance to curl up with!
This a cozy and sweet romance. I'm not usually a gan of books that jumps from one perspective to the next, but it works so well in this book. I love the idea of being able to start over with love, and this book is easy to follow and read. I really enjoyed this book and it was a nice change of pace from usual reads! I can't wait to read the second book!
*I received this book for free to review.
Sweet Romance That Leaves You Wanting More
This book was well thought out and well written with a great plot that leaves you wanting more. The beginning four chapters focus a lot on character development, which makes story progression feel a bit slow, but it is necessary in order for the rest of the story to make sense. About Eloise, a woman who has recently gone through a traumatic divorce, and her three children, embarking on their own life journeys, this story truly immerses you in it. I can't wait to find out what happens to her and her family in the future books of this series!
Family story with romance
I liked this quite a bit. It has a great setting, a romance that shows that it's not just for the young and a bookstore. I liked the rest of the characters as well and I'll definitely read the next book in the series.
I received this book for free for an independent review. I've found a lot of really good authors that I never would have found on my own.
