DNF

The premise was intriguing, and I liked the cover, but the story didn't pan out to my expectations. I couldn't even finish it, it was so ridiculous. I understand it's fiction, but it still has to be plausible, and this wasn't, at all. I also felt zero connection to the characters. The female lead is instantly in lust with this stranger and agrees to go off with him without even knowing him, and this is right after her grandmother and sister are killed. Huh? She just decides to trust him and leaves with him? How does she know he's not the killer? I have to like the female lead in a romance, and I didn't like this one. She annoyed me. I also couldn't feel their "attraction". It was told to me rather than shown. I never got beyond the first few chapters, so this was a DNF for me.

This was a new to me author.
This book was like one big puzzle, so I absolutely adored the premise of the plot. It was mostly well executed but my god did the main female character get to me in the last little bit.
So many secrets and lies are tangled together, look forward getting answers in the conclusion.

He is dangerous, and I am captivated.

I was so ready for a new kind of romance novel and I got it with this book. This one will keep you wanting to know what’s coming next and then you’ll want even more when it’s over!

Ellie and Will both had trusting problems, but not alot. The title of this book was correct. Lots of lies. Ellie was a pain in the a**. Too needy. Not doing what has been of her to keep her safe. Her defiance made the situation worst for all that protected her. Lots of twist and turns. The ending of this book was a eye opener. I can't wait to read the next book, which is the conclusion of the story.

An excellent thriller!

Wow! The story has everything, thrills, action, steamy love scenes and a tight family unit. It was an action packed read with tension and suspense galore.
The plot was riveting and there was secrets to be revealed, and lies and deceit.
This was a definite must read and I enjoyed it immensely. I’m now eagerly awaiting the next instalment in this exciting series. I can’t wait!

Blinding Binding Melodrama

My intention was to get out of my head and lose my worries for a while in someone else’s troubles. A good romantic thriller would do just fine, or so I thought when I chose “Lies That Bind Us”. Ah well. What I got was melodrama on steroids that’s locked in a time warp. Author K.L. Clare delivers a borderline fairytale plot of Ellie who is living in the U.S. but is unknowingly a direct descendant of the British Crown. Really? Har de har har. And to top it off Will Hastings (who we’re supposed to believe is a descendant of William the Conquerer) is her sworn protector. Ellie is maddeningly over emotional with her over the top histrionics, crying buckets of tears, weepy and needy beyond all reason. And Will carries the domineering hero trope like a badge of honor. Problem is, the characters and their actions and attitudes don’t fit in a contemporary romantic thriller.

Making matters worse, the narrative and dialogue read like a rough draft throughout the first two-thirds of the book. It was disjointed and ping-ponged back and forth between subjects without continuity. I kept looking through just-read pages to see if I’d inadvertently skipped parts. Nope! I came very close to chucking it into the DNF stack but I fought the urge and finished it. I can’t remember the last time I rated a book this low, but you do what you’ve gotta’ do. I won’t be reading Book 2 of the Beautiful White Lies series though. Two stars.
