Characters and storylines to love

Follow Her Home is another Emerald O’Brien book that kept me completely absorbed beginning to end.
It was an emotional read that used beautiful and sometimes haunting song lyrics to express the strong feelings of the emotions experienced, pain of break up, loss of loved one by murder and keeping memories alive.
Lump in throat outstanding reading!
Through all the emotional, a big twist was building and the past returned with a scary vengeance.
Ms O’Brien at her best, an excellent goodread.

Great lyrics and original song!

Music, suspense and action—what more could a reader want? Follow Her Home has it all and was a fabulous read from start to finish.

I enjoyed the lyrical aspects of this novel and the original song by Adrienne Ashley that was included—and linked right there in the chapter for my convenience!

The last half of the book was fast-paced and action packed, keeping me on the edge of my seat as the pieces of the puzzle came together.

This was my first read from author, Emerald O’Brien, but certainly won’t be my last!

Great story!

A great read full of mystery and suspense. It didn't grab me from the beginning, it was more of a slow build which in this story enhanced the characters. There were twists and turns that kept me guessing, I love that in a book! Adding the song to the book was brilliant, loved that idea!

An Interesting Band of Suspects

You will likely learn a new word from this book. Lyn, the main character, experiences the phenomenon known as “scopaesthesia.” She has a strong, prickling sense that someone is behind her, watching her, stalking her. Readers’ fear for Lyn will build further as it seems possible that someone can gain access to her house at will and might even be able to lurk, hidden inside her house, at times when Lyn is there. That sort of “it’s coming from inside the house” threat worked well to keep me on edge as Lyn is confronted with a series of disturbing details. “Didn’t I leave that glass on the kitchen counter before I left?

The “band of suspects” advanced in these pages is both a group and literally a “band.” The stage is set when Lyn is tapped by some old college friends to fill in as a lead singer in their up-and-coming bar band. Author O’Brien gives a sense of what it must often be like to be in such a band playing around the Toronto area. Readers of the Kindle edition of this novel are given the bonus feature of a link to a song presumably written and sung by Lyn

Descriptions of what this band goes through on their gigs are fairly realistic. They face backstage frenzy and adoring fans. But there are also aspects of the story that are a bit unbelievable. Lyn and the band seem to write songs in just minutes. Likewise, they need only an hour or so of rehearsal time before having to go onstage to present a new song incorporating Lyn in their routine. It seems unlikely that things could be that easy. But then again, the songs that Lyn composes and that are reproduced here do seem to be slightly maundering and off-the-cuff. Maybe such songs can indeed roll off the pen in minutes.

One other issue I had with this book was the potholes of bad grammar. Every time I read something like “She gave the notebook to him and I” – I’d cringe, and not from fear of the stalker. I don’t mean to be picky and pedantic, but those occasional errors in grammar, usage, and vocabulary would jar me out of my involvement with the plot.

While I enjoyed the book, quick Kindle reads such as this one sometimes have me longing for the more carefully composed, literary works of the older generation of writers of psychological thrillers – writers such as Ursula Curtiss, Celia Fremlin, and Ruth Rendell.

Keeps You Guessing

Another fantastic novel by the extremely talented Emerald O'Brien. I absolutely LOVED every single word of this book. The story is great, the characters are even better and the continually guessing is everything I look for in a psychological thriller. I never would have guessed how this one ended and that makes a great story to me and even better is the fact that there are really two plots going here and how Emerald manages to weave them together and make it work is nothing short of amazing. If you want an edge of your seat, page turner this is the book for you!

On the edge of my seat!!

I absolutely love Emerald! Her writing style keeps me on the edge of my seat with everything I've read so far! I was able to put myself in Lynda's shoes and feel the emotion she was feeling going thru the death of her father, reuniting with her old friend and being followed by a stranger. A few sleepless nights as I was up super late reading to see what was going to happen next!
